Jeffrey T. Daugherty's Obituary
Mr. Jeffrey T. Daugherty, age 60, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 14, 2023 following a hard-fought battle with cancer. Jeff was born on November 23, 1962 to Rex and Suzanne (Hagstrom) Daugherty in Muskegon. He was a graduate of Mona Shores High School and obtained both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Central Michigan University. While working in the U.P., Jeff met Beverly Sorrels and the two were married on June 23, 1990. Throughout his career, Jeff owned and operated three convenience stores around the Muskegon area. After buying and selling Super Stop then Corner Store, he owned and operated Ray’s Mini-Mart for over 17 years. Ray’s Mini Mart featured West Michigan’s premier bait and tackle shop. Jeff was an avid fisherman, and this specialized store within the store reflected his hobby.
When he wasn’t fishing, Jeff was serving as a grill master and chef extraordinaire for his friends and family. He enjoyed cheering on the professional Detroit sports teams, his favorite being the Detroit Red Wings since he grew up playing recreational hockey. Jeff also served on the Mona Shores School Board for several years, and supported the Sailors as well.
One of Jeff’s biggest passions in life was his faith in Jesus Christ. He was a devoted member of All Shores Wesleyan for 30 years. Jeff was always inspired in his mission as a faithful servant of the Lord. He traveled to Mongolia and Uganda to help others in need while spreading the gospel and supported his local community while hosting Perspectives on the World Christian Movement class and through prayer.
Jeff was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be missed by all who knew him. Jeff is survived by his wife of 33 years, Beverly; children, Rachel (Gregory) Allen and Blake Daugherty; grandson, Gavin Daugherty; siblings, Bill (Linda) Daugherty and Julie (Brian) Smith; several nieces and nephews; and granddog, Bo Beau. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will take place on Friday, September 8 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, MI 49441. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00AM, Saturday, September 9 at All Shores Wesleyan, 1050 W. Southern Ave., Muskegon, MI 49441.
