Jennette L. Rycenga's Obituary
Jennette Lois (Wierenga) Rycenga 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 14, 2018 humming the tune of the Praise Hymn "What a Day That Will Be." Jennette was a hard worker and carried a smile wherever she went. Although Tom and Jennette never had children of their own, we her siblings were her children. The eldest daughter of William Sr. and Anna Wierenga, her job was to help take care of her brothers and sisters of which there where 12 active children. Jennette was an encyclopedia of medical issues and many were sure to get much advice on healing. Jennette spent many Sundays in the nursery at Spring Lake Baptist Church and loved the children and is remembered by many as grandma Jennette. Jennette graduated from Grand Haven High School and spent some time working at North Ottawa Hospital. After marriage, Tom and Jennette painted homes together as a team. Jennette also was custodian of the Fruitport and Ferrysburg Fifth Third Banks. Jennette and Tom were custodians of Spring Lake Baptist Church until their retirement. Jennette is survived by: sister-in-law, Delores Wierenga; brothers, George (Ruth) Wierenga, Eugene ( Donna) Wierenga, Etta Peterson; brother-in-law, Harry Bolthouse; brothers, William (Arlene) Wierenga Jr., Ken Wierenga, Jon Wierenga; sister, Alice (Jim) Whitwam; brothers, David Wierenga, Roy (Sue) Wierenga and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Rycenga; brother, Harold Wierenga; brother-in-law, Clinton Peterson; sister Joan Bolthouse; sister and brothers-in-law Willene and Cal Brondyke and Alvin Wezeman. A FUNERAL SERVICE will take place 11:00 AM Monday, February 19, 2018 at Spring Lake Baptist Church (118 E. Exchange St.) with Pastor Douglas Bytwerk officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 2PM - 5PM Sunday at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100 and one hour prior to the service at church. MEMORIALS can be directed to Spring Lake Baptist Church. Burial will take place at Spring Lake Cemetery.
