Jennifer VanderStelt's Obituary
Mrs. Jennifer VanderStelt, age 37, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 26, 2015 at her home in Muskegon, surrounded by her husband Marc and other loving family members after her “too inspired to be tired” battle with cancer. Jennifer was born on January 13, 1978 in Muskegon and was a life-resident of the area. Jennifer had a generous and caring heart, and was actively involved in volunteering within her community. She was a board member for the Michigan Irish Music Festival and Relay for Life, a founding board member for the 911 Wellness Foundations, a Child Abuse Council volunteer, Vice-President of Run Muskegon, and a member of the Greater Muskegon Jaycees and Fraternal Order of Eagles Arie 668. Jennifer was employed as the Chief Operating Officer for Service One Federal Credit Union and had previously been employed for 15 years as a 911 dispatcher with Ottawa and Muskegon Counties. She attended Calvary Memorial Church. Jennifer enjoyed running, especially with her Wednesday Run Club, and had participated in several marathons. Most importantly, Jennifer cherished her family and spent all year anticipating the joy she found in the Christmas season. On August 25, 2007, Jennifer married Marc VanderStelt in Grand Haven and he survives her along with two children, Kayleigh Gonzalez and Matthew Britton; parents, Christine and Dave Harken; parents-in-law, Dave and Deb VanderStelt; grandmother, Patricia Picard; brothers, Jeremy (Kelly) Sturm and Brian Harken; sister Jean Harken; sister-in-law, Michele VanderStelt; niece, Hailey Gallegos; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, including dear friend and caregiver, Liz O’Keefe. A CELEBRATION OF JENNIFER’S LIFE will be held at 4:00 PM Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100 with Rev. Jeff Dunn officiating. VISITATION will be at the funeral home from 5-8 PM Tuesday, December 29, 2015 and one hour prior to her service. MEMORIALS in Jennifer’s name may be made to the Muskegon County Child Abuse Council.
