Jerry Lee Erwin's Obituary
Jerry Lee Erwin, age 87, of Grand Haven, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Robbinswood Assisted Living. He was born on November 19, 1938, in Jackson, Michigan, to Harold S. and Florence Marie (Pray) Erwin.
Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Barbara K. Miner, with whom he shared many wonderful years until her passing on October 26, 2006. In time, he was blessed to find companionship again and married Lois J. Pape on November 29, 2008. Lois preceded him in death on October 21, 2025.
Jerry lived in Scottville from 1959 to 1999, where he and Barbara raised their daughters, welcomed their sons-in-law, and joyfully celebrated the arrival of each grandchild. He worked for Farm Bureau Services distributing petroleum products to farmers, later becoming manager of both the petroleum service and two feed mills. In 1981, he and Barbara fulfilled a dream when they became small-business owners, operating Custom Sports on the main corner in Scottville. In 1999, they moved to the Tri-Cities area to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Following Barbara’s passing, Jerry found comfort, companionship, and many happy years with Lois. Together, they enjoyed time with friends and family, watching their families grow, and embracing a peaceful and fulfilling retirement.
A dedicated and active community member, Jerry belonged to First Presbyterian Church in Grand Haven, the Grand Haven Lions Club, Ludington Elks Club, Scottville Optimist Club, and Mason County Athletic Boosters. He was also a proud member of the Scottville Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star Scottville Chapter 357, where he served as Past Master. Additionally, he served as Past President of the Scottville Chamber of Commerce.
Jerry found great joy in tending his garden and caring for his yard, attending any event featuring a grandchild, and exploring his genealogy—an interest made richer through the hard work of his brother.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Gina (Kevin) Gancarz and Jada (Timothy) Bench; stepson Dale Ramberg; six grandchildren; Shawn (Douglas Mayfield) Gancarz, Brooke (Jon) Stolarz, Molly Jo (Tyler) Rosema, Kayla Bench, Bronti (Cory) Samuels, and Spencer Bench; seven great-grandchildren; his brother, Dr. Paul (Mary Jane) Erwin; and nephew Brian (Karen) Erwin. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Gregory Erwin.
The family will hold a celebration of life after the holidays. Interment will take place at Brookside Cemetery in Scottville, Michigan.
Arrangements are entrusted to The Spring Lake Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 213 E. Savidge St., Spring Lake, MI 49456. You may share memories with the family through their online guestbook at https://www.sytsemafh.com.
