Jerry L. Hamstra's Obituary
Jerry Lee Hamstra, age 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. He was born June 11, 1947, in Holland, MI, to Gerald and Esther (Tubergan) Hamstra. Jerry was a proud graduate of Ferris State University and honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He spent many years working as a computer programmer at Quality Farm and Fleet before retiring from Meijer, Inc. On August 8, 1975, he married Darlene Wiersma in Muskegon. They shared a loving life together until her passing on January 7, 2011. A dedicated member of Unity Reformed Church, Jerry served on the Consistory as an Elder and as Chairman of the Prayer Team. He was a longtime season ticket holder for University of Michigan football, an avid golfer, and enjoyed reading, camping, and fishing trips with Darlene. Above all, Jerry cherished the time he spent with his family. SURVIVORS include two daughters: Allison (Aaron) Cribley and Sarah (Todd) Nelson both of Fruitport; two grandchildren: Austin (Lauren) Cribley and Collin (Taylor) Cribley; two great-grandchildren: Amelia and Kennedy; two brothers: Rick Hamstra and Randy (Joan) Hamstra both of Holland; In-laws: Nanette (Jim) Hamstra-Borlik, Diane Hamstra, Marilee (Roger) McKee, Karen Waalkes, and Cheri (Phillip) Colgan; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Ken and Stan Hamstra; his mother-in-law, Muriel Medema; and special niece and nephew: Stacy Hamstra-Bird and Justin McKee. A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held 12 Noon Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Unity Reformed Church (1521 Porter Rd., Norton Shores, MI 49441). Visitation with the family will be from 10:30 AM until 12 Noon at the church. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Harbor Hospice Foundation or the Wounded Warrior Project.
