Jerry W. Perry's Obituary
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Jerry Wayne Perry, who left this world on March 7, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on June 3, 1947, in Light, AR, to Ora and Matheline (Rowe) Perry, Jerry grew into a man of strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends.
A proud member of the first graduating class of Mona Shores High School, Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps shortly after graduation. He bravely served his country during the Vietnam War, embodying the honor and resilience that would define his life.
Jerry was a gifted athlete in his younger years, excelling in track and field, bowling, and softball. However, his true passion was golf—a sport he not only mastered but cherished. He spent countless hours on courses throughout West Michigan, particularly enjoying tournaments played with his sons, Jeff and Steve (while his daughter Elizabeth ‘Beth’ humorously claimed the “good golf gene” had skipped her). Whether playing in leagues year-round or simply looking forward to his next tee time, the game brought him immense joy.
Jerry was a dedicated sports fan, especially when it came to his grandchildren. He could often be found in the stands at Mona Shores gyms and fields, cheering them on with pride. Watching them compete brought him much happiness.
Jerry was a man of great character—kind-hearted, punctual to a fault (if you weren’t an hour early to a tee time, you were late in his book), and he was always ready with a story to tell. He had a gift for conversation and could often be heard boasting about how wonderful his grandchildren are. He was a wonderful father and a loving grandfather, whose presence will be deeply missed but forever cherished.
Jerry is survived by his three children: Jeff (Nicole) Perry, Steve (Lauren Ferullo) Perry, and Elizabeth (Jeffery) Nunnery; his beloved grandchildren: Jamie Perry, Jenna Perry, Jessica Perry, Justin (Jessica) Nunnery, Ashtyn Nunnery, Noah Gustin, and Olivia Nunnery; his sister, Rebecca (Douglas) Platt; nephew Mark (Vicki) Platt; and niece Shannon (Steve) Banchero. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Service to honor Jerry’s life will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, March 14, 2025, at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd, Muskegon, MI 49441, with visitation beginning an hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
