Jerry Spoelhof's Obituary
Mr. Gerard “Jerry” Spoelhof at the age of 88 went to rest in the arms of his Lord on Friday, January 9, 2015. He was born in May of 1926 in Muskegon Heights to Frank and Bertha (Veldman) Spoelhof. Jerry proudly served in the 1st Army’s Calvary Division during WWII. Mr. Spoelhof worked for Sealed Power Corporation as a machinist for 40 years before retiring in 1984 and was a member of the U.A.W. Local 637. On January 13, 1951 he married his loving wife Magdalene “Pat” Bar and were happily married for 56 years. She preceded him in death on March 15, 2007. He will be lovingly remembered by his surviving 4 children: Dr. G. David (Melissa) Spoelhof, Deborah (James) Therrian, Denise Spoelhof, Don (Karen) Spoelhof; grandchildren: Heidi (Daniel) Hurley, Amy (Vasa) Zhdankin, Greg (Allison) Spoelhof, Frank (Lesley) Therrian, Katie (Jacob) Hewitt, Kristin Spoelhof; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Angie Schuitema, Gertrude (Raymond) Roelofs; many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, David G. Spoelhof and by a brother, John Spoelhof. Jerry also enjoyed meeting with his friends at McDonald’s for coffee and was a member of Westwood Reformed Church. SERVICES will be 2:00 PM Monday, January 12, 2015, at Westwood Reformed Church with Rev. Scott VanArendonk officiating. VISITATION with the family will be from 2-5 PM Sunday at The Walburn Chapel, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., (231) 759-8565. Burial will take place in Norton Cemetery.
