Mr. Jerry R. Thomas' Obituary
Jerry R. Thomas, age 74, passed away at home surrounded by his family, on Saturday, July 9, 2016. He was born on February 24, 1942 to Burrel and Louise (Gregory) Thomas in Marion, IL. Jerry was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He started his work career as a heavy equipment operator at Owasippe Scout camp before starting Thomas Excavating in 1972. He loved his business and worked hard until his retirement in 2010. Many summer days you could catch Jerry watching his beloved St. Louis Cardinals play baseball. The most important thing in Jerry’s life was his family. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy Thomas; children, Scott (Katrina) Thomas, Lori Thomas, Joy (Jon) Crane, Jerry (Terri) Thomas; grandchildren, Heath Thomas, Karly Thomas, Jessica Thomas, Kaitlyn Crane, Sarah Crane, Lauren Thomas; brothers, Jack (Sharon) Thomas, Steve (Linda) Thomas; sisters, Peggy (John) Walker, Nancy (Doug) Carter. He was preceded in death by his parents. A MEMORIAL SERVICE for Jerry will be held at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. (231-798-1100) on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 2:00 PM. Burial will take place in Oakhurst Cemetery. For a more lasting memory, contributions in Jerry’s name can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
