My condolences to the entire Wiersema family. I only had the opportunity to meet Jerry on one occasion in a doctor's office waiting area and we immediately struck up a friendly conversation. He was witty and cordial.
I am well acquainted with his son, Tom, and years ago did a story for the Muskegon Chronicle on younger son Jerry's business in Norton Shores.

I had the pleasure of being appointed to Jerry's Council seat when he became Mayor. He truly grew into role of Mayor, handling the public and fellow Council member with diplomacy and humor. I will miss Jerry and his great sense of humor.
