Sgt. Jesse Mark Johnson's Obituary
Sgt. Jesse Mark Johnson, age 26, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, September 26, 2015 at his home in Oceanside, CA. He was born in Grand Rapids, MI on August 15, 1989 to Larry and Sherri (Fitzhugh) Johnson and was a 2008 graduate of Spring Lake High School. Jesse graduated high school early and joined the United States Marine Corp. He moved to San Diego, CA where he completed basic training and was stationed at Camp Pendleton as a amphibious assault vehicle mechanic. While stationed at Camp Pendleton, Jesse was active in playing soccer with the Camp Pendleton Soccer Team, surfing and he was a certified swimming instructor. Jesse lived life to the fullest and will also be remembered for his love of sailing, hockey, and his love of the Detroit Red Wings. Most importantly, Jesse will be remembered as a loving and dedicated father. Spending time with his boys brought him his greatest joy. Jesse is survived by his two sons, Larry Jacob Johnson and Kyle Jake Johnson, both of San Marcos, CA and their mother, Kazue Johnson; his parents, Larry and Sherri Johnson of Nunica, MI; two sisters, Krista Kay Johnson and Lisa Marie (Daniel) Hoogstra; grandparents, Ken and Betty Fitzhugh and Barbara DeVries; and aunts and uncles, Trudy Kerkstra, John and Cheri DeVries, Pete and Cheryl Johnson, Julie and Dan Williams, Gary and Shannon Johnson, Tery and Diane Johnson and Ken and Chuck Fitzhugh. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rita and James Johnson and Al DeVries and one aunt, Ellen Johnson. SERVICES for Jesse will be 11:00 AM Saturday, October 3, 2015 at The Journey Community Church (6502 Schamber Dr., Norton Shores, MI 49441). VISITATION will be from 5-8 PM Friday, October 2, 2015 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100.
