Mrs. Jessica E. Mellema's Obituary
Mrs. Jessica E. Mellema, age 30, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, July 8, 2015 in Muskegon after a courageous two year battle with ovarian cancer. Jessica was born in Muskegon on May 11, 1985 to Bruce and Denise (Lambert) Gustafson and was a life resident of the area. On June 8, 2010, Jessica married Ryan Mellema and in 2012 their son, Maddox, was born. Maddox was the light of Jessica’s life, and no matter what she was going through, he always put a smile on her face. Jessica was a graduate of Muskegon Community College and Baker College and was employed as a pharmacy technician at Meijer for the past six years. Jessica was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church. She recently developed a love for gardening and had quite the green thumb. She loved spending time with family and friends and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. Jessica is survived by her husband, Ryan; her son, Maddox; her father, Bruce (Lisa) Gustafson; her mother, Denise (Myke) Grocky; one sister, Brook (Bud) Terryn; three step-brothers, Erik Johnson, Jeff Grocky, Dave Grocky; grandparents, Michael J. Grocky, Jerry Brune, Jamie and Jeannie Southers; father and mother-in-law, Dave and Nancy Mellema; brother-in-law, Eric (Stacy) Mellema; four nieces, Ava Terryn, Maddie, Sammi and Ali Sewick; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Monday, July 13, 2015 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100 with Rev. John Rop officiating. VISITATION will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Sunday.
