Jeyne Sue Smith's Obituary
Jeyne Sue (DeJonge) Smith, age 85, of Ravenna, MI, passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023 in Walker, MI surrounded by her family. Jeyne was born in Muskegon, MI to William and Clare (Bates) DeJonge on January 19, 1938. She attended Carr School and graduated from Ravenna High School. On April 9, 1960, she married Herbert Lee Smith and he preceded her in death on March 14, 2023. They lived the majority of their lives in Ravenna, MI where they raised their eight children. Jeyne loved painting, reading, and spending time with her family. She loved manicures, pedicures, and being pampered followed by a nice dinner out. She loved jewelry and shopping for clothes. Jeyne was a cherished member of her church, Jibson Immanuel Baptist Church, where she served with pride as a dedicated Treasurer. Her love for this role was evident in the meticulous care she took in fostering financial stability that allowed their one-room church to build and move to a larger facility to support their growing congregation. The family would like to take a moment to thank Pastor Dan Smith and his wife Nancy and the entire staff of Corewell Health Hospice and Palliative Care for the wonderful support given to Jeyne and the family during this most difficult time. Jeyne is survived by children: Sue (Dale) Melin, Herbie Smith, Linda (Lonnie Smith) Stebelton, Billy (Lisa) Smith, Richard (Jill) Smith, Pam (Tom Kosak) Smith, Paula (Michael) Jones, and Tina (Rick) Griswold; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Holly Lackey and Danya (Henry) Franczek; brother, Barry (Jan) DeJonge; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Dale “Bud” Ransom; great-grandson, Brendon Pearce; sisters: Karen (Bob) Fields, Alida (Frank) Wall; brother, Michael DeJonge; and brother-in-law, Bud Lackey. SERVICES for Jeyne will be held 1:00 PM Friday, December 15, 2023 at The Ravenna Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 3570 Thomas St., Ravenna, MI 49451 (231) 853-6511.
