Jim A. Hawkins Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. Jim Hawkins, Sr. age 78, of Grand Haven passed away Friday, April 12, 2024, at home. He was born October 17, 1945, in Muskegon to David and Mary Jean (Hill) Hawkins. On February 8, 1975, he married Viola "Vonnie" Smedley.
Jim was a veteran of the US Army. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed fishing and pressing his luck at the casino with his wife.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Viola "Vonnie"; five sons: Patrick (Nichole) Hawkins, Christopher (Margo) Hawkins, Jimmie Hawkins, David Hawkins, and Everett Hawkins; six grandchildren: Aaron (Samantha), Alyssa, Kaidin, Leslie, Addisyn, and Phoenix; two great-grandchildren, Maddi and Bailea; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Hawkins. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mary Jean, sisters, Betty Gilbreth and Sharon (Gaylon) Beck; brothers, Bill, David, Willard and Bob Hawkins; and daughter-in-law, Beth Hawkins.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave., Grand Haven, MI 49417 with Pastor Cory Slade officiating. Visitation will take place from 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in memory of Jim may be given to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
