Joan Marie Bishop's Obituary
Joan Marie Bishop, age 78, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023. She was born December 23, 1944 in Muskegon to Peter and Clarissa (Poel) Kroeze. Joan was a 1963 graduate of Western Michigan Christian High School. On November 24, 1964, she married Wayne K. Bishop in Muskegon. Joan loved her Lord and Savior and her church. She was an active charter member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church where she sang in the choir, enjoyed making newcomers feel welcome, and took a special interest in the children of the church. Joan was an avid reader, loved to travel with Wayne, and was a great baker, especially her Christmas cookies. Joan adored her grandchildren and loved attending all of their activities. Joan was loved by many and will be greatly missed. SURVIVORS include her husband of 58 years, Wayne; two children: Randy (Pam) Bishop of Grand Rapids, MI and Linda (Steve) Schuring of Cedar Rapids, IA; seven grandchildren; Andrew Schuring, Leah Bishop, Victoria Schuring, Zach Schuring, Jenna Bishop, Kristina Schuring, and Sammy Bishop; sister, Janet (Rick) Dethloff; sister-in-law, Marilyn Tjapkes; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Clarissa (Poel) Kroeze, and her mother, Clarissa Dick Kroeze. SERVICES for Joan will be held 11:00 AM Monday, March 27, 2023 at Calvin Christian Reformed Church (937 W. Norton Ave., Muskegon, MI 49441) with Pastor Mark Milkamp officiating. VISITATION will be from 2-4 PM Sunday, March 26, 2023 at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, MI 49441 (231) 759-8565 and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in Norton Cemetery.
