Joan Marie Dion's Obituary
Joan Marie Dion, age 94, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 5, 1925 in Manistee, MI to Harry C. and Helen E. (Silvis) Hanson. On November 7, 1970, she married Vincent P. Dion in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on September 26, 1994. Joan worked as a benefits administrator for Brunswick Corp. and retired in 1987 after working 35 years. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where she managed the Gift Shop for 10 years. Joan also volunteered for the American Red Cross and Friends of the Frauenthal. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, reading and loved to attend Broadway musicals and plays. Joan formed a group with 3 of her lady friends called “The Golden Girls” and they would have monthly lunch dates. Survivors include her daughter, Patricia M. Tomorsky; 6 grandchildren, Scott (Shannon) Brown, Michele (Andy) Malbouef, Marc Brown, Edward Tomorsky, Jr., Michael (Luda Podovich) Tomorsky, Dionne Dibble; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; many nieces and nephews and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent; 1 daughter, Peggy Brown; her son-in-law, Edward Tomorsky, Sr.; her parents; and 1 brother and 1 sister-in-law, James and Emma Hanson. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Saturday, November 16, 2019 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church (2929 McCracken St.) with Rev. Charles D. Hall presiding. A luncheon will be served after Mass in Shepherd’s Hall. Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Friday at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 1547 W Sherman Blvd, Muskegon, MI 49441 where the Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM Friday. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to Mass, 10-11 AM Saturday at the church. Entombment will be held at St. Mary’s Mausoleum.
