Joan Grace Dexter's Obituary
Mrs. Joan Grace Dexter, age 84, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2014 at her home. She was born on November 27, 1930 in Muskegon to Lloyd and Jeanette (Karel) VanderSlute and resided in the area all of her life. Joan was an active member of Laketon Bethel Reformed Church, and belonged to the Ladies Circle. She was also active in the Tops Club and was a Scout Leader for the Girl Scouts. Joan enjoyed camping, painting and knitting and loved baking pies. On September 15, 1950 she married Kenneth Dexter, and he preceded her in death on May 17, 2004. SURVIVORS include 4 children, Jack (Meri) Dexter of Twin Lake, Allen (Susan) Dexter of Muskegon, Loretta Dexter also of Muskegon and Thomas (Susan) Dexter of North Muskegon; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, William VanderSlute of Twin Lake, and James (Susan) VanderSlute of Muskegon; and 1 sister, Janet (William) Schugars of Muskegon. Joan was also preceded in death by her brother, Frank VanderSlute; and 2 sisters, Betty England and Doris Arbo. VISITATION with Joan’s family will be 9:30-11AM Friday, January 2, 2015 at Laketon Bethel Reformed Church (1568 West Giles Rd). The FUNERAL SERVICE will be 11 AM Friday with Rev. Dr. Sherwin Brantsen officiating. Burial will take place in Laketon Twp. Cemetery.
