Joan Marie Hillstead's Obituary
Joan Marie Hillstead, age 85, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Trinity Health Muskegon Hospital. She was born on February 6, 1937 to Raymond and Gertrude (Willis) Dobb in Muskegon. Joan was an active member at Fifth Reformed Church and most recently joined Unity Reformed Church. She took part in coffee bible study, RCWM Women’s Ministry and helped as a missionary correspondent for many years. Joan worked 26 ½ years as an administrative assistant for Midland Grocery and then went to work at West Michigan Mart Dock for several more years. She was known as “The Cookie Lady,” loved hockey and the Muskegon Fury, Michigan Wolverines, The Big Reds, writing and interior decorating. On May 4, 1957, she married, Roger Hillstead in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on December 23, 2021. SURVIVORS include two sons, Scott (Karen) Hillstead of Winchester, Tennessee, Steve (Sarah) Hillstead of Grand Rapids; son-in-law, Ted Bringedahl of Fruitport; seven grandchildren: Kara Hillstead, Kelcie (Nick) Mashburn, Kailee Bringedahl, Kendra Bringedahl, and Kristian Bringedahl all of Fruitport, Geoff (Sam) Hillstead of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and Kaitlyn (Connor) Wells of Nashville, Tennessee; one great-grandchild, Hudson Mashburn; sister, Joyce (Paul) Workman and brother, Phillip Raymond Dobb. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Bringedahl in April of 2022; parents; in-laws, Edmund (Constance) Hillstead; brother-in-law’s, Rudolph Gross and Virgil Hillstead and sister-in-law, Holly Dobb. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 9, 2022 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231) 798-1100. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior. MEMORIAL can be directed to the American Heart Assoication or the Parkinson Foundation. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
