Joan M. Misner's Obituary
Joan Misner was born in Muskegon on October 4th, 1943, and died in Whitehall on June 17th, 2024. She lived, worked, and raised her 4 children in Montague the majority of her life. Joan worked until her retirement from Perrigo in Montague. Joan was loving, affectionate, compassionate, and devoted. She enjoyed the simplest things in life and would do anything for anyone in need. She derived her joy from her family, her Savior, and the beauty of simplicity in life around her. Her deepest joy was found in crafting. Joan was an accomplished member of the Stampin’ Up! crafting community for many years after her retirement and expanded her crafting horizons by turning anything and everything around her into a work of art. From sticks, rocks and dead flowers, to broken bottles, old chunks of brick and lost and forgotten buttons, she found beauty and potential in everything around her. Her art was displayed proudly in her home and distributed as gifts to anyone who needed a smile. Joan was also a member of Christ the King Church for a number of years. She enjoyed all the babies, children, and friends she was able to encounter during her time there. We know that we will see Joan again in paradise. Joan was preceded in death by her siblings: Nina (Hanks) & Thomas Payne Sr., Inez (Hanks) Hook, Karen (Hanks) & Raymond Fitzgibbon, Becky (Hanks) & Terry Duchene, and Benjamin (Judy) Hanks Jr. and her mother, Margaretta (Hitchcock) Hanks. Joan is survived by her 4 children: Roxanne (Linda) Modelfino, Becky Walsh, Barbara Misner, and Joseph (Terri) Misner; grandchildren: Allissa Byle, Blake (Valerie) Artlip, Sabrina (James) Boggiano, Jonathan (Crystal) Misner, Marissa (Wade) Ackerson, Breanna (Austin) Harr, Emma Walsh, Eliza Walsh, Ezra Walsh, and Aaron Modelfino; along with a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. We will be celebrating Joan’s life on Monday, June 24th at 6pm at Christ the King Church in Ferry, Michigan, with a reception to follow. We will be having a “Joan themed” potluck so if you are able, please bring a dish to pass that you know Joan enjoyed. She will be laid to rest in Hubbard Cemetery, Montague, MI. Joan’s family would like to thank all the friends and family for the well wishes and prayers during this time. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the family for her final expenses. John 11:25 says, “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;” Share memories with the family at their online Guest Book at www.sytsemafh.com Arrangements by The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 737 Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442 (231) 726-5210
