Joan Pickett's Obituary
Mrs. Joan Pickett, age 82, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning, January 26, 2010. Joan was born in Chicago, IL on April 29, 1927 to Joseph and Bessie “Doris” (Wheway) Humphreys. Joan was a 1945 graduate of Muskegon H.S. She married Mr. Donald Glen Pickett in Muskegon at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on May 20, 1949. He preceded her in death this past year on January 17, 2009. Mrs. Pickett retired from Muskegon Radiology where she was a secretary. She was a member at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, a former member of the Seventh Guild and the “E.C.W.” (Episcopal Church Women). She is survived by: daughter, Sharon (David) VanderVeen of Fruitport; three sons, Michael Pickett of Reston, VA, Robert (Kelly) Pickett of Fruitport and Steven (Marjorie) Pickett of McDonough, GA; three grandchildren, Todd (Carrie) VanderVeen, Mark (Liz) VanderVeen and Joshua Pickett; brother, Kenneth Humphreys of Ft. Worth, TX; sister, Patricia (Kenneth) Pickett of Mesa, AZ and brothers and sisters-in-laws, Lauren & Gaby Pickett, Phyllis & Gene Roberts and Betty Pickett-Cole. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Kristin VanderVeen. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 10:00 A.M., Saturday, Rev’d Thomas C.H. Scott presiding. In accordance to her wishes, Mrs. Pickett will be cremated and her remains placed in the columbarium of St. Paul’s Church. Memorial Contributions: Johnson Family Center for Cancer Care or St. Paul’s Church Futures Fund.
