Joan Sandberg's Obituary
Mrs. Joan Sandberg, age 81, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 in Norton Shores, Michigan. She was born in Muskegon on November 26, 1942. On December 10, 1965, Joan married Gary Joel Sandberg and they enjoyed 53 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2019. Joan was a member of the Muskegon Elks Lodge #274 and an active member of the Viking Linne Lodge #57 where she enjoyed playing dominoes, volunteering, and spending time with her many dear friends. She also enjoyed boating, collecting lighthouses, and spending time with her family. Joan is survived by her daughters, Sheila Sandberg and Beth Ann (Tim) Aebig; three grandchildren, Shelby (Cameron Scola) Hanchera, Hannah Aebig, and Ryan (Madison Shumaker) Aebig; sister, Joanne Porter; brothers, Mike (Doris) Dowdy, Randy (Ranoda) Dowdy, and Tony (Cathy) Dowdy; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Joan was preceded in death by her parents, William and Betty (Sidock) Dowdy; son, Maurice “Bud” Vanderstelt; sisters, Rosemary Barrett and Wilma Gilmore, and brother, Billy Dowdy. According to her wishes, a PRIVATE graveside service will be held. A PUBLIC CELEBRATION OF HER LIFE will be held from 1-5 PM Friday, July 26, 2024 at the Viking Linne Lodge #57 (3132 Lakeshore Drive, Muskegon, MI 49441).
