Mrs. Joan R. Smith's Obituary
Joan Ruth Smith passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at the Poppen Residence. She was born June 13, 1931 to parents Henry F. and Anna (Vos) Bronkest. Joan’s natural father died in 1933 and her mother remarried in 1943 to Dick Bomers, who adopted Joan as one of his own. On October 13, 1950 she married Cornelius ‘Casey’ Smith. Joan was a lifelong resident of Muskegon. She loved her family and enjoyed cooking, drawing, shopping at T.J. Maxx, trips to Chicago and decorating her home. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Joan had the sweetest personality and was loved by all who met her. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Casey Smith; children, Terri (Dennis) Andersen of Coopersville, Rick Smith of Grand Rapids, Steven (Mary) Smith of Norton Shores; Stacy Smith of Norton Shores; grandchildren, James (Mindy) Polak of Coopersville, Nick (Emily) Andersen of Coopersville; great-grandchildren, Kaila and Caden Polak, Declan, June, Peter, Paul and Blaise Andersen; step grandchildren, Travis and Trisha Witte, Trever (Melissa) Andersen. VISITATION with the family will take place on Friday, June 3, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. (231-798-1100). A private burial will be held at a later date.
