I have so many wonderful memories of Joan! She took care of me when I had the chicken pox. She was my "defacto" babysitter during the many hours I spent running around the office and grounds of the Wharf Marina. She thought up countless games to keep me entertained, my favorite being "find a new nose for Mama," a little stone figure that sat atop her desk. Later, when I was a teenager, she taught me how to balance a cash drawer and how to provide the best costumer service possible. She was always patient, always kind and always quick to laugh. Joan was such a caring & classy lady. 36 years ago when I was troubled, she invited me in to her home , never asking for anything in return. Her help & patience guided me in the right direction. Joan was always in our thoughts when she worked for us over about 20 years and after we sold The Wharf Marina. She was a friend as well as an employee. She always was UP. The most positive person I have ever met. We were blessed as both a business and as people to have known her.

As an employee she was the BEST. We counted on her loyalty, dedication, work ethic and, especially, her willingness to work on the weekends without complaint. When times were hard during the oil embargo, for example, she handled our office with professionalism and made our problems seem much small than they were.

Joan was perhaps my first true "adult" friend when I was a child. She serviced my family's business as the office manager. Yet, she did far more than "work" at the Wharf Marina, she blessed everyone with her exceptional kindness. She is forever etched into my heart. If I remember correctly, her birthday was March 21, the first day of spring...of new birth...No doubt she is newly birthed, flying free and easy with the angels resuming her heavenly teaching role, which is probably offering tutoring for angels involved with efforts for world peace. Her lessons are called "How to Pause and Go into One's Heart Before Speaking a Single Word so that the Beauty and Good Intention of All is Sure to be Recognized." Fly well Joan. Your presence is felt.
