Joan E. Baker's Obituary
Mrs. Joan E. Baker, age 75, went to be with her Lord Thursday evening, October 28, 2004. She was born to Henry and Trena (VanBruggen) Vos on June 5, 1929 in Muskegon and was a resident of this area all her life. Mrs. Baker was a very active member of Fifth Reformed Church and was treasurer of the Women’s Guild for Christian Service for 25 years. She loved to bake, camp, and travel. After graduating from Muskegon High School in 1947, she worked for 12 years as a secretary at Anaconda and Reeths-Puffer High School. On September 26, 1952, she married Claude M. Baker who preceded her in death August 17, 2002. SURVIVORS include 2 sons, Bruce (Kathleen) Baker of Florida, Bradley (Darlene) Nowak-Baker of Lansing; 2 step-grandchildren, Sarah and Fritz, and 2 step-great-grandchildren, Cheyenne and Hunter of Florida; mother, Trena (Vos) Bierema of Muskegon; 2 brothers-in-law, Elmer (Grace) Baker and Raymond (Linda) Baker and sister-in-law, Margie (William) Sangster; 2 aunts, 1 uncle, 4 nephews and 3 nieces. Mrs. Baker was also preceded in death by her father, 1 son, Brian Mark Baker, and 1 nephew, John Baker. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Monday, November 1, 2004 at Fifth Reformed Church with Pastor Norman Swier and Rev. Jim Stevens officiating. VISITATION with Joan’s family will be 1-5 PM Sunday at Sytsema Funeral Home, 737 Apple Avenue, (231) 726-5210, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
