Joan L. Balcom's Obituary
Mrs. Joan L. Balcom, age 71, passed away Saturday evening, April 25, 2009. She was born April 30, 1937 in Muskegon to Edwin and Annabelle (Shunk) White. Mrs. Balcom worked as a secretary for many years before retiring. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing the organ, collecting plates, and traveling. On July 1, 1960 she married Richard E. Balcom, Sr. in Muskegon and he survives her along with 3 children, Debra (Steven) Marsh of Muskegon, Victoria (Wayne MacPherson) Brown of Grand Rapids, Rick (Carlene) Balcom of Muskegon; 7 grandchildren, Jason Brown, Jillian (Troy) Bulson, Holly Marsh, Thomas Brown, April Brown, Megan Balcom, Courtney Balcom; 4 great-grandchildren, Jalyn, Jadyn, Tyler, Reece; and a sister-in-law, Nancy (Gerald) Eaton of Muskegon. She was preceded in death by her parents. SERVICES will be 1:30 PM Wednesday at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100 with Rev. John H. Brown officiating. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION with the family will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Tuesday. MEMORIALS to the VNS-Hospice House will be appreciated.
