I used to bar tend with Joann at the Station. We all used to call her grandma since she was older than the rest of us. She was such a beautiful and caring person. She handled herself professionally and was respected by her co-workers and customers.
Her and Chuck made a great team together. We would often run into them at restaurants and catch up on things. I found out that we lived pretty close together growing up and I went to school with her brother LaVern. I even had the honor to escort her sister Ellen down the Pere Marquette River on one of our canoe trips.
My sincere sympathy to Chuck and to the family of Joann. She will sorely be missed.

I am Joann's Great nephew Richard Tripp II. For many years, working with my mother and Grandfather (Gary Vanderstelt sr) at my family's bakery, "Goober's of Norton Shores I would see aunt Jojo.
Family lore tells it that,as a young boy, my grandfather Gary, one of the kindest men I have ever, known once tied aunt Joann to the garage door and shot her with bbs......I couldn't believe it but aunt Jojo confirmed it as canon......wnaht a way to treat your kid sis, pappy. ; )
She and the chief (Mr Chuck ) would come in the bakery most days that ended in "y" between 7 to 8 pm. Grandpa an I would be busy and I would usually be at the front icing glazing and trying donuts as grandpa popped them off the fryer.
Now when most people would get near the counter and chit chat I would not particularly care for it as I felt a bit on display. however aunt Jojo and the chief were always nice to have there. I remember talking with them and an hour would pass and Jojo would say "well...we are going to get out of your hair" and she would often come around and give me a hug..not a little one armed hug either a real grab ya good hug....now I am 6'4 250lb and I felt 10yrs old. "be good, kid" she'd say.
Chuck and family,
We are saddened to read of Joann’s passing. It was always nice when we would occasionally run into each other at the store or a restaurant!
You have our sincere sympathy.
May God bless you with peace.
