Joan R. Kastl's Obituary
Mrs. Joan R. Kastl, age 76, passed away January 30, 2005 in Muskegon. She was born on March 31, 1928 in Hannah, MI to Frederick & Josephine (Bartz) Schichtel and had resided in the Muskegon area most of her life. Mrs. Kastl was a member of St. Francis deSales Catholic Church, and belonged to the Women of the Moose. She had worked as a hostess at Russ’ Restaurant, and was a homemaker, who enjoyed baking, cooking, and gardening. Joan’s Christmas cookies were legendary. On June 25, 1955 she married John Kastl in Muskegon, and he survives her along with 3 children, Julie Kastl of Muskegon, Joseph (Beth) Kastl of Twin Lake, Jon (Mark Harbick) Kastl of San Francisco; 2 dearly loved grandchildren, Alex and Emily Kastl; 2 sisters, Dolores Steward of Muskegon, Winifred Yost of Nevada; brother, Joseph (Janice) Schichtel of Cadillac; 2 sisters-in-law, Ethel Schichtel of Traverse City, Barbara Schichtel of Muskegon, and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kastl was preceded in death by sister, Betty Stauffer; 2 brothers, Phillip Schichtel and Robert Schichtel. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated at 1 PM Wednesday at St. Francis deSales Catholic Church. VISITATION with the family will be 2-4 & 6-8 PM Tuesday at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. 231-759-8565 with a Scripture Service at 7:45 PM. Entombment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorial Contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association or Brookhaven’s Activity Fund will be appreciated.
