Johanna Workman's Obituary
Mrs. Johanna "Joan" Workman (Huizenga), age 95, passed away Saturday, December 04, 2010 after a long struggle with heart and lung disease. A lifelong native of Muskegon, she was born on September 5, 1915 to Rica (Hyma) and John C. Huizenga. She married the late Clarence J. Workman on October 1, 1941. Joan met Clarence at the Amazon Knitting Company in Muskegon where they both worked, Joan for nine years. They shared 61 years of married life together before his death seven years ago. Mrs. Workman was a committed mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and wife. She loved to cook and bake as well as stitch and sew. She lived most of her life at three locations on Allen Avenue in Muskegon, until she moved to Christian Care five years ago. She was a lifelong member of Allen Avenue Christian Reformed Church. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Ruth of Spring Lake, Mary (Jack) Meyers of Northbrook, Illinois, and James of Whitehall; her grandchildren, Jeffrey (Tina) Meyers of Chicago, IL, Erica (Andy) Carlson of Denver, CO, Alysha Workman (of Grand Rapids) and Jamie Workman; great grandchildren, Xavier and Aiden Meyers and Joyann Carlson. She is also survived by loving sister Marva Jacobson and loving sister-in-law Ellen Huizenga; also by sister-in-laws Theresa Workman, Emma Jean Olson and Betty Cota. She was preceded in death by three loving sisters, Grace Brondyke, Alice Veldkamp and Marian Vredeveld, and loving brother John Huizenga and many dear nieces and nephews. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. (231) 726-5210 with Rev. Robert Bierenga officiating. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION will be from 6-8 PM Monday evening.
