John Gilbert Belasco's Obituary
Mr. John Gilbert “John the Great” Belasco, age 86, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2015 at his home in Norton Shores. He was born in Muskegon on October 31, 1928 to John and Tomasa (Garza) Belasco and was a life-long resident of the area. On February 27, 1949, John married the former Margaret “Myke” Moran and they were married for 50 years before she preceded him in death on August 20, 1999. John served in the United States Navy and was a veteran of WWII. He had been a member of St. Jean the Baptiste Catholic Church and had most recently attended Our Lady of Grace and St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. John was an electrician and had owned and operated Belasco Electric for 48 years. He was a member of VFW Post 446 and the Muskegon Eagles Aerie 668. John enjoyed studying about and collecting memorabilia from WWII. He loved to laugh, loved to dance, and most importantly, loved his wife. He is survived by six children, Christine (Robert) Yates, Steve (Christine) Belasco, Renee Lulofs, Danielle Sellars, John J. (Vicki) Belasco, and Andrea (Wally) Swiatek; 10 grandchildren, Christopher, Johnna, Sarah, Amanda, Johnny, Katie, Jeremy, Dylan, Austin, and Caleb; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sally Lawson, Clara Shaver and Irene (Jack) Sander; and two brothers, Bill (Sandy) Belasco and Dick (Debbie) Belasco. In addition to his wife, John was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Elvira Kaufman and two brothers, Freddie Belasco and Art Belasco. The MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated at 11:00AM Friday, October 23, 2015 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Michael P. Olson presiding.
