John Blok's Obituary
John Blok, age 85, of Spring Lake passed away Thursday, November 2, 2023, at home. He was born October 5, 1938, in Rotterdam, Netherlands, to John and Lena (Kolff) Blok, Sr. He married the former Mary Lou Hoek, in Grand Rapids at the Twelfth Street Christian Reformed Church on May 5, 1961.
John graduated from Grand Rapids Junior College with an associates degree. He then served his country in the Army. John worked for Pepsi-Cola driving large delivery trucks and worked his way up to district manager. From the spring of 1987 to 1992 he operated Voss Boys Convenience Store along with the gas station and car wash. He then purchased Behm’s Convenience Store on M-45, which he owned and operated from 1993, to 2005.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary Blok; two sons, Ed (Linda) Blok and Paul (Michelle Ploughman) Blok; three grandchildren: Eric (Cheryl) Blok, Katelyn Blok and Abby Blok; one great-grandchild, Nora; sister-in-law, Pat Blok; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jenny and Sylvia, and two brothers, Bert and his twin brother, Leo.
