John Broek, Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. John Broek, Jr., age 84, passed away Saturday, September 25, 2004 at a local nursing home. He was born February 5, 1920 in Muskegon to John and Agnes (VanDyke) Broek and lived in the area his entire life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WWII. John was a self-employed construction worker for 38 years before retiring in 1982. He was also a member of Unity Reformed Church. He was married to the former Margaret “Marie” Holland on June 20, 1940 and she preceded him in death on September 13, 1994. He then married the former Evelyn R. Hetchler on October 5, 1995 and she survives him, along with 4 children, Douglas (Joan) Broek of Grand Rapids, Helen Cyr of Muskegon, Steven (Nina) Broek of Roosevelt Park, and Paul Broek of Muskegon; 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Gerritt (Mary) Broek of Spring Lake; 3 sisters, Johanna Shrier, Kathleen Sims and Joyce Workman all of Muskegon; and 1 sister-in-law, Alice Broek of Florida. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, Eleanor McCabe, Phyllis Hyma, and Carrie Richards, and 1 brother, Robert Broek. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at the Sytsema Funeral Home, 737 Apple Avenue, (231) 726-5210, with the Rev. James Bos officiating. INTERMENT will follow at Norton Cemetery. VISITATION with John’s family will be 2-4 and 7-9 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
