John E. Buist's Obituary
Mr. John E. Buist, age 82, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2019. He was born on May 30, 1937 in Coopersville, MI to Gerrit and Alvina (VanderJagt) Buist, and was a life resident of the area. John was a police officer for the Village of Fruitport and worked security and maintenance for Fruitport Community Schools for 30 years, prior to retiring in 1997. He also owned Buist Standard Service in Fruitport in the 1960’s. On June 28, 1958 he married the former Lorna Johnston, and she preceded him in death on August 8, 1990. John was a member of Olivet Evangelical Free Church, and enjoyed model trains and photography. SURVIVORS include his widow, Mary Mosley; two daughters, Lana Grevengoed and Laura (Mark) Ellis; eight grandchildren, Michael, Bryan, Robert, A.J., Matthew, Abrielle, David, and Bradley; and two sisters, Wilma DeBoer and Henrietta VanRyswyk. John was also preceded in death by two brothers, James and Elmer Buist. FUNERAL SERVICES will be 1PM Wednesday, July 24 at Olivet Evangelical Free Church (6790 Harvey St.) with Pastor Craig Cramblet officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 5-8 PM Tuesday, July 23 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St. Norton Shores, MI 49444, and one hour prior to the service at church.
