John Dewind's Obituary
Mr. John Dewind, age 94, went to be with his Lord Saturday evening, January 17, 2009. He was born March 10, 1914 to Henry and Ida (Cooper) Dewind in Muskegon, and was a life resident. John had owned Sanitary Garbage Service for many years before retiring, and then helped at the Fisher-Pawlowski Greenhouse with his daughter Shirley for several years. He was a long-time member of Fifth Reformed Church, where he belonged to the Senior Fellowship, served as an Elder and Deacon, custodian, and caretaker of the yard. On August 31, 1937 he married Celia Diephouse. She preceded him in death on December 8, 2002. SURVIVORS include 5 daughters, Ilene (Clarence) Medema of Muskegon, Shirley (Leonard) Fisher of Norton Shores, Donna (Glenn) Weesies of IN, Florence (David) Oegema of Fenton, MI, Mary (Daniel) Doctor of Muskegon; 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Nell Balkema of Muskegon; sisters-in-law, Lucille Dewind and Nina Dewind. John was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amy Doctor; brothers, George, Dirk, and Jack Dewind; sisters, Agnes Dykema and Ann McAfee. A CELEBRATION OF JOHN DEWIND’S LIFE will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at Fifth Reformed Church, with Rev. Norman Swier and Rev. James Stevens officiating. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery. VISITATION at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. (231) 726-5210 will be from 5-8 PM Wednesday, and 1 hour prior to the service at church.
