Mr. John Leonard DeYoung's Obituary
Mr. John Leonard DeYoung, age 88, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015 in Grand Haven. John was born August 27, 1926 in Muskegon to Richard and Iva (Bolthouse) DeYoung. John served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. On June 23, 1948 he married the former Joyce Lorraine Rousch and she preceded him in death on May 28, 2007. John was a lifelong member of Bethany Church where he had served as deacon several times. He played on the First Christian Reformed Church Golf League and was a member at Hickory Knoll. John was employed with Lakeside Machinery for 35 years and was also part owner and operator of a landscaping business for more than 10 years. He grew up helping his dad on the celery farm. John enjoyed playing cards, shuffleboard, golf, and watching his children play sports. He will be missed and is survived by his daughters, Vicki (Doug) Carlson of Twin Lake, and Karen (Bill) VanDyke of Grand Haven; daughter-in law, Barb Forest; 3 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition for his wife, Joyce, John was preceded in death by his son, Larry; his infant son, Randy; his parents; 3 sisters, Margie Botbyl, Jeanette Ippel, Agnes Doctor; and 4 brothers, Jay, Bernie, Rich, and Wes. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Bethany Christian Reformed Church, 1105 Terrace St., with Rev. David Sieplinga officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to West Michigan Christian High School.
