It is 4 months tomorrow since our good friend passed away. Ruth and I miss our frequent visits with John. We have known John for only about 15 years of his 95 years. Met him through a want-ad in the GR press for a telescope he was selling. We became friends almost immediately. We traveled together in Europe a lot where he got to know my family and the country where I was born. My younger brother was his driver and guide. He searched and found John`s brother Albert. He was a casualty toward the end of WWII. Next trip over John was taken to that Canadian graveyard. John and I cruised the Panama canal and Dutch West Indies. Met him in Barcelona Spain where we hung out for a few days and took a bullet train to Paris. We hung out there for a few days. One evening during our many visits it was decided to take his vintage GMC motorhome around Lake Huron with many stops at lighthouses and our cabin That was a great trip and took turns driving. The last trip he wanted to do was the coal fired ferry the "Badger" across Lake Michigan. We caught a good day for that. He kept hoping that someday there would be a John Harvey day in Grand Haven. That became reality on September 7 2013. He really deserved this and got recognition for it. Ruth and I miss our visits and many subject of conversation with him.
John and my father worked together on harvesters and permeameters and all sorts of things. I was starting my manufacturing company at the time John was liquidating Tresco. John's deliberate, matter of fact way of offering advice and relating stories made an impression on this young(at the time) pup and I tried to put them to good practice, though we never did figure out how to make a go out of the permeameter. We still have few of the things from John out of that shop and I think about him when we use them. He was one of the people that inspired me early on, that a person could work hard and build a successful business. Godspeed John!
I had the pleasure and opportunity of taking care of John at Oak Crest/American House. He was such a sweetheart, never complained about anything, even at the end. He knew he had a wonderful life and family. RIP Sweet John, I will miss you lots!!

John gave to Bette and myself a dear relationship and we hand and enjoyed hours of discussion on various subjects where John always showed his wisdom. The Lord called him home, but left us a gift of wonderful memories in exchange. David & Bette Rowley
Dear John you all way's will be in are memories and are hearts.Tanti and Rob De Jager from The Netherlands.
I worked for John at "Harvey Harvester" in the mid 1960's. He is known as a pioneer in the early manufacture of Blueberry Harvesters. He was instrumental in helping establish the Ottawa County Skill Center. His interest in helping his workers was evident in that he would have a teacher come into his factory and work with some of the employees, at the lunch tables, in areas that would excel them at their skills.
He was a very thoughtful person and one that was an encouragement to me in my early life. Peace to you, John
