John Charles "JC" Howe's Obituary
John Charles “JC” Howe, age 86, of Spring Lake passed away Thursday, February 29, 2024, at home. He was born November 5, 1937, in Grand Haven, MI to William Edward and Elvira Susan (Becker) Howe. He married Claudia Baldus on October 31, 1975, in Spring Lake, MI.
JC will be remembered for his love of his family, traveling, and especially the theater.
He graduated from Grand Haven High School and went to MSU where he discovered his passion for the theater. Throughout the years he held many positions as a member of AFTRA, Screen Actors Guild and Actor’s Equity. He was an incredible Scenic Artist who directed and designed sets, lighting, costumes, etc. for local theater companies, Muskegon Civic Theater, Central Park Players and numerous professional companies.
JC was also a successful professional actor, model, voice over actor, and voice recording artist. He and his family were especially proud of his accomplishments as Resident Set Designer for Cherry County Playhouse for thirteen years, his Grammy nomination of one of his Brilliance Corporation Audio Recording and being the first Creative Director of the Grand Haven Public Schools Performing Arts Center where his students donned him “PAC Man”.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Claudia Howe; five children: Leslie (Ric) Rymal, Graham (Dawn) Howe, Wendy (Tom) Murray, Christopher (Karen) Howe and Lori Haney-Dirkse; nine grandchildren: Lucas, Hilary, Alec, Spencer, Peyton, Brendon, Grant, Emily and Katie; seven great-grandchildren; and his brother, Gregory Howe.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake with Rev. William Vander Werff as celebrant. Friends may meet the family from 6 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, at the Spring Lake Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 213 E. Savidge St., Spring Lake, MI 49456.
