John James Leonard's Obituary
John James Leonard, age 89, of Spring Lake passed away Saturday, January 26, 2019, at the Leila & Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence. He was born July 10, 1929, in Maplewood, New Jersey, to John Ignatius and Elesha (Driscoll) Leonard, and married Joan Marie Jordan on September 8, 1956, in Long Island, New York.
John ran track during his days at Chaminade High School in Mineola, New York, before attending Hofstra College in Long Island, where he met Joan. He was a patriot and served his country in the Army during the Korean War and worked for Dake Corporation in sales and servicing of presses. John loved golfing and watching football. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post # 28.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Joan Leonard of Spring Lake; four daughters: Diane (Edward) Anderson of West Olive, Donna Charland of Norton Shores, Kathleen Leonard of Muskegon, and Nancy Leonard of Grand Rapids; six grandchildren: Jordan Anderson, Brody (Shelbee) Anderson, Peter Morgan, Jesse (Lisa) Morgan, Kasey Moreno, and Jessica Shattuck; four great-grandchildren: Riley Morgan, Caleb Morgan, Kayden Andreas, and Kayci Andreas. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2019, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake with Rev. David Gross as celebrant.
