John M. "Jack" Braun's Obituary
Mr. John M. “Jack” Braun, age 85, passed away at home, Monday evening, September 1, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was a lifelong resident of Fruitport, born June 3, 1929 to John H. and Dorothy C. (Balcom) Braun; and served in the U.S Army during the Korean War. Jack had a career in buying and selling everything, but specialized in wheeling and dealing cars. His goal was simple, to make his wife and family happy. It’s what he lived for! He was a member of the Grand Haven American Legion, the Elks and of the Car Dealers Association. On November 1, 1954 he married the love of his life, the former Patsy R. Canning, in Angola, IN; and she survives along with 4 daughters: Candy Braun (Gary) Harris of Fruitport and Debbie Braun (Bruce) Gillies of South Portland, ME, Linda (Jerry) Kramer of Spring Lake and Valerie Grant of Grand Haven; 12 grandchildren: John Christopher (Renee) Braun, Jason (Theresa) Braun, Mark (Kelly) Kramer, Aleschia (Patrick) Loughridge, Heidi (Tal) Holmes, Lesley Ann (Scott) Fisher, Scott (Stacey) Schliewe, Amy (Darren) Bradley, Adam Harris, Brandon Harris, Jonathan Gillies, and Cameron Gillies; 24 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill (Jackie Cioe) Braun of Fruitport; brother-in-law, Vernon Jensen of Ann Arbor, MI; his nieces and nephews, Mark, Diane, Joel and Tracy Braun and by numerous friends and acquaintances. He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved son, John Braun; baby, Clarence Braun; grandson, Corey Harris; sister, Dorothy Braun; sister-in-law, Bonnie Jensen and niece, Sara Lynn Jensen Moffett. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held, 10:30 AM Saturday, September 6, 2014 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 S. Harvey Street, Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231-798-1100), with the Revs. Donald Wood and Chip Hackney officiating. Burial will be in Fruitport Cemetery. VISITATION with Jack’s family will be 5-8:00PM Friday. For a more lasting memorial, you are asked to consider Mercy VNS Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
