John Martin Nic Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. John Martin Nic Sr., age 89, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at his home in Muskegon, Michigan. He was born in Muskegon Heights on March 17, 1936 to Michael J. and Bernadine (Hutta) Nic. John was a talented woodworker who turned his craft into a successful career. He worked for E.H. Sheldon, Structural Concepts, and Amstore before retiring in 2005. An avid fisherman, he also found great enjoyment in gardening and was a lifetime fan of the Detroit Lions and Muskegon Catholic Central Crusader Football. John was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and, following its closing, transferred his membership to St. Thomas Catholic Church. On June 20, 1969, John married the former Judy Ann Tibbits and she survives him along with five children, Laurena Nic, John (Peggy) Nic Jr., Randall Nic, Richard (Cindy) Nic, and Joanne (Robert) Stoneburner; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Martin (Diane) Nic; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, James and Rosezella Tibbits; and siblings, Sr. Michael Anne Nic, Michael J. Nic Jr., and Dorothy (Sam) Lakos. VISITATION will be held from 6-8 PM Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 with the ROSARY prayed at 5:30PM. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held 10:30AM Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at St. Mary the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (239 West Clay, Muskegon, MI 49440) with Fr. David Sacha presiding.
