Mr. John R. "Jack" Roy's Obituary
Mr. John R. “Jack” Roy, age 76, died early Monday morning, April 2, 2012 at the Poppen Residence. He was born June 7, 1935 in Muskegon to David L. and Hazel H. (Howe) Roy; and had resided in the area most of his life. Jack had been a brick mason for 25 years and was then employed at Weyburn-Bartel Camshaft in Grand Haven prior to his retirement in 2000. He was a member of St. Francis deSales Catholic Church and was a long-time member of the Muskegon Eagles where he bowled on their league for years. Jack was also a former volunteer fire fighter for Egelston Township and a 4-H leader. He also enjoyed hunting and golfing. On July 2, 1955 he married the former Patricia Ann Tyers and she preceded him in death on November 30, 2001. He was also preceded in death by his son, “JR” Roy on November 17, 2007 and brother, Robert Roy. SURVIVORS include his very, very special friend, Marva Sugarbaker of White Cloud; 1 daughter, Jeanine (Chip) Schmiege of Muskegon; his daughter-in-law, Pam Roy of Walker, MI; 5 grandchildren, Mary Catherine (Gustaf) Andre?sson, Reneé (Kyle Juusola) Schmeige, “CJ” (Jess) Schmiege, Tricia Schmiege and Timothy Schmiege; 1 great- granddaughter, Coral Andre?sson; 1 great-grandson, Kaiden Schmiege, on the way and by 1 sister, Jeanne (Mert) Wever of Muskegon. The MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11 AM Wednesday at Marian Chapel of St. Francis deSales Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Philip P. Salmonowicz, presiding. Burial will be in Egelston Twp. Cemetery. VISITATION with Jack’s family will be 5:30 – 8:30PM Tuesday at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc.; 737 Apple Avenue, Muskegon, MI 49442 (231-726-5210) where the Rosary will be prayed at 8:00 PM.
