John Patrick "JP" Ryan's Obituary
John Patrick “JP” Ryan, age 88, passed away Monday, March 23, 2026 at his home. He was born February 27, 1938 in Detroit, MI to James E. and Rachel (Canaan) Ryan. JP was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. JP married Donna B. Norbom on June 10, 1961 in Detroit and she survives him. JP earned 2 bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree while attending Northwood University, Western Michigan University, Central Michigan University, and Wayne State University. He enjoyed a 44-year career in public education and administration at various public schools which included vocational director, classroom teacher, high school principal and finally 5 years as the superintendent for Holton Public Schools. Even after he retired, he spent 5 years as an instructor at Muskegon Community College. JP attended St. Patrick Catholic Church in Grand Haven and St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Norton Shores. Survivors include his loving wife, Donna Ryan; 3 children, William D. (Cindy) Ryan, Mark A. (Pamela) Ryan, Todd A. Ryan; 6 grandchildren, Shannon, Sean, Shelby, Shaelyn, David, Tessa; and his sister, Elaine Giglio of Grand Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents and 6 siblings. A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, March 28, 2026 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey Street, Norton Shores, MI 49444, with Rev. Charles D. Hall presiding. Military Honors will be offered by the Muskegon Marine Corps League Detachment 703. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
