Mr. John Savickas' Obituary
Mr. Jonas “John” Savickas, 92, passed away Monday, December 16, 2019, in Muskegon. He was born April 26, 1927 to John and Josephine (Zutantaite) Savickas in Fountain, MI, and lived most of his life in the Muskegon area. John graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in June of 1945 and went directly into the Army during WWII, serving German occupation duty in Mannheim, Germany. He worked for Uganski Trucking, Erickson Trucking and Matco as a crane operator and later a consultant before retiring. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved Las Vegas, Reno and The Little River Casino. He also belonged to the D.A.V., the Polish Roman Catholic Union, the American Legion, Tatra Hall, and was a founding member of the Lithuanian Club. John married Alice Porth on June 5, 1954 in Muskegon, and she survives him along with 1 daughter: Camille (Patrick) Gabris; 2 grandchildren: Andrew (Molly) Gabris, Cara Gabris; 1 great-grandson: Sammy; 1 sister: Josephine Youngstrom; 1 sister-in-law: Kathie Merrick. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings: Christina, Gerry, Sally, Al, Benny and Vince. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, December 21, at 11:00 AM at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Marian Chapel. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to mass. Internment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Contributions in memory of John may be made to St. Francis de Sales Building Fund.
