Mr. John Richard Schmehil's Obituary
Mr. John Richard Schmehil, age 86, finally gave in to God and let him take him home on March 27, 2012. John was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 14, 1925. John served his country in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. He married Gloria Burroughs on November 10, 1945 and together they had three sons, Rick, Jack and Kevin. Gloria preceded him in death on January 26, 1963. On July 27, 1963 John married Judy Thomas and together they had three children, Chris, Sue and Kurt. Judy preceded John in death on December 20, 1998. After serving in WWII, John worked for the Woolworth Company in Chicago, IL, later transferring to Muskegon, MI. After Woolworth’s closed, John worked for various car dealerships in the Muskegon area. John was a “Jack of all trades” – there was nothing he would not attempt to fix. He loved his flowers and vegetable garden, from which he grew the best tomatoes around. John loved fishing, backyard barbeques with his family, his dogs and a good martini. It is through these happy times John will be remembered. Survivors include six children, Rick (Jean) Schmehil of N. Muskegon, Jack (Diane) Schmehil of Oconomowoc, WI, Kevin Schmehil of Norton Shores, Chris (Peggy) Schmehil of Oakfield, WI, Sue (Todd) Robbins of Twin Lake and Kurt Schmehil of Muskegon; 13 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, James Schmehil of Wooddale, IL; 1 sister, Ida Monaghan of Coral Spring, FL; and many nieces and nephews. John was also preceded in death by his granddaughter Alicia Wiseman DeBrot; his parents; 1 brother, Bob; and 2 sisters, Jean and MaryLou. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 10, 2012 in Marian Chapel at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Joseph Fix as celebrant. VISITATION will be held 6-8 PM Monday at The Walburn Chapel, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., (231) 759-8565. INTERMENT will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
