John "Barney" Shay's Obituary
John “Barney” Shay was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He left this world on Friday, May 7, 2021, to be with our Lord at the age of 85. He was born January 2, 1936, to Cecil and Elsie (Olivey) Shay in Grand Rapids, MI. John married Patricia Dibble on December 14, 1962, and together they had 58 years of marriage, Patricia preceded him in death on January 13, 2020.
John graduated from Wyoming High School in 1954 and served his country in the Army, then went on to Taylor University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in business. He was the CEO of Sealed Power Credit Union in Muskegon and retired in 1999. John enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and playing cards with his neighborhood friends. He cherished the time spent with his family and grandchildren, from Sunday dinners to Wednesday night pizza. He will be remembered by those who knew him for his unwavering support and generosity.
He is lovingly remembered by his son, Robert (Cheri) Shay; daughter, Erin (Gary) McCaleb; seven grandchildren: Tyler, Ryan, Lauren, Emily, Paul, Daniel, and Rachel; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Pauline Gayle and two brothers, Russell and Cecil Shay.

A private graveside service will be held with Chaplain Duane Smith officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post # 28 Honor Guard.
