John M. Skocelas Jr.'s Obituary
John Michael “Jon-Jon” Skocelas, Jr., age 26, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, December 5, 2019. He was born December 18, 1992 in Muskegon to John and Jill (Rutkowski) Skocelas, Sr. John was a 2011 Mona Shores Graduate and was attending Muskegon Community College. He was currently employed as a barista at Biggby Coffee. Johnny loved many things including hunting, fishing and golfing, but his true passion was the sports field. Whether it was the football field or hockey rink, his talent shined, helping him make many lasting memories and friendships along the way. Johnny could be found eating frozen pizzas, gaming, hanging out with his friends or attending his beloved Umphrey’s McGee concerts. For all who knew him, he was the kindest soul and the biggest “gentle giant”, his infectious laugh could fill up a room. Taken too soon would be an understatement, but we pray he has found peace and endless Umphrey’s concerts. SURVIVORS include his parents: John and Jill Skocelas of Norton Shores; sister, Brooke (Ethan) Miles of N. Muskegon and their son, Declan Miles; grandparents: Jack (Sandi) Rutkowski of Norton Shores; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his beloved dog, Haji. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Joe and Carolyn Skocelas and his grandmother, Maxine Rutkowski. THE FUNERAL MASS for John will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Charles D. Hall presiding. VISITATION with the family will be from 5-8 PM Monday, December 9, 2019 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231) 798-1100. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
