John C. Sutherland's Obituary
John Clark Sutherland, age 69, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 12, 2022. John was born in Muskegon on April 25, 1953 to Edward and Barbara (Lindback) Sutherland. He attended Muskegon High School where he was a drummer in the Big Red Symphonic and Marching Bands. He studied at Muskegon Community College and then Columbus College in Georgia where he majored in History and Philosophy. John enlisted in the US Army and studied at the Naval Conservatory of Music. He served as a percussionist in the Army Band and was stationed at Fort Benning, GA. Along with his love of music, John enjoyed woodworking and often fancied his family with homemade Christmas gifts. His love for and knowledge of American History was the impetus for many of his travels, always trying to learn more about the country he held so dear. John was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Arnold Van Dyk and Robert Mc Arthur. He is survived by his sisters, Christine Mc Arthur, Ann (Dan) Morgan, and Barbara (Tom) Gudelsky along with many nieces, nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.
