Mr. John Carl Thomas Jr. age 89, passed away at his home early Monday Morning, April 1, 2019, surrounded by his family. John was born November 22, 1931 in Columbus, MS to John and Mary (Murphy) Thomas Sr. He married the former Odessa A. Leech in 1950 and they then moved to the Muskegon area. John worked for Campbell, Wyatt and Cannon for 7 years until becoming disabled through a work injury. Throughout the many years of being wheelchair bound and bedridden, his family was there by his side, taking good care of him. Odessa preceded Thomas in death on February 29,1972. Thomas is survived by his children, Ronnie (Jamie) Burt, Vanessa Tyler, and Gary Thomas; grandchildren, Rufus Harris, Katwana Harris, Carla Turnipsy, Carl Herron, Jonathon Herron, and Sheik Tyler; great grandchildren; Audria Tyler, Bentley Tyler, R.J. Nelson Jr., and Sheik Tyler Jr.; brothers, Robert of Washington D.C. and Tom Lee Thomas of Muskegon ; cousin , Rachelle Lyon Haynes and family; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, George and Brenda Wright. In addition to his wife Odessa, John was preceded in death by his son, Carl; 2 sisters, Helen and Betty; and brother, Henry Anthony. In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held.
