John D. Tyers Jr's Obituary
Mr. John D. Tyers Jr, age 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 16, 2023 at his home. He was born on December 19, 1939 to John and Helen (Holub) Tyers in Muskegon and was raised in Ravenna. In 1959, at the age of 17, John joined the Navy, where he served for 20 years on board Nuclear Power submarines. He was very proud to serve his country. He married Wanda J. Rosel in 1961, and they spent 62 years together and had three children. John really enjoyed life and was in his element when family and friends were around and loved when he was the center of attention. John was always willing to help anybody, as long as they had beer. Later, when he couldn’t help, he was always willing to supervise. He loved to garden and kept a very large garden for a number of years. However, John gave it up when he realized he was feeding the animals more than his family. John will always be remembered by his wife, Wanda Tyers; daughter, Cindy (Garry) Hoagland and their children, Melissa (Chad) Piper, Lisa (Adam) Corlew, and Thomas Hoaglund; son, Tony (Karen) Tyers and their children, Bryan (Alisha) Tyers and Adam (Jessica) Tyers; son, Randy (Sheilla) Tyers and their children, Jake (Kayleigh) Tyers, Christopher Tyers, and Tabitha (Gary) Wilson; siblings, Helen Alberts and Ted (Sue) Tyers; and siblings-in-law, Alfred (Sandy) Rosel, Martin (Vickie) Rosel, and Deby (Merl) Harrison. John is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Jack Roy; brother-in-law, Robert Alberts; infant brother, Dickie Tyers; in-laws, Martin and Alberta Rosel; and brother-in-law, Craig Rosel. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00AM, Saturday, June 24 at Ravenna Am. Legion Post 297, 3590 Conklin St., Ravenna, MI 49451 where Military Honors will be rendered by Am. Legion Honor Guard Post 297. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 – 11:00AM.
