John VanderLeek's Obituary
John VanderLeek, age 77, of Spring Lake passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2019, after a brief illness. He was born August 1, 1941, in Holland, MI to Herman and Harriet VanderLeek.
After graduating from Holland Christian High School, he attended Michigan State University. John served in the U.S. Army in Germany. Upon returning from his military service, he joined the Amway Corporation as a systems analyst, where he worked for 35 years. His other interests were golf, sailing, and raising and lowering the American flag at the condo where he resided.
He is survived by his daughter, Sarah Jane VanderLeek of Spring Lake; brother and sister-in-law, David and Garnet VanderLeek of Holland; sister, Kathleen Russell of Grand Rapids; and four nephews and their families: Tim and Ana of California, Tom and Shann of Suttons Bay, Scott and Melissa of Grand Rapids, and Rick and Kate of Fort Collins, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Janet VanderLeek.
A private memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to send a memorial in John’s name may mail directly to The Leila and Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence, 1050 W.
