John Dean VanDyke's Obituary
Mr. John Dean VanDyke, age 70, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2020 in Muskegon. He was born in Muskegon on September 28, 1949 to John and Berdena (VanderLeest) VanDyke. John graduated from Muskegon High School in 1968, earned his LPN from Muskegon Community College in 1972, and earned his associate of nursing in 1989. He started his career at Mercy Hospital in 1969 and transferred to Gambro Dialysis and then to Davita Dialysis where he worked until retirement in 2014. John was an instrumental figure associated with the dialysis program in Muskegon. He worked in management and staff nursing there for 39 years. He was well respected and loved by the staff and patients. John enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife, Lois. They especially enjoyed over 30 trips to Mexico and 17 years at their seasonal camp site at Hill and Hollow Campground. On June 2, 1972, John married the former Lois Ramsey and she survives him along with their two daughters, Heather (Jason) Earl and Dr. Michelle VanDyke; three grandsons, Zachary (Ashley Maner) Zelsdorf, Levi Topp and William Topp; sister, Diane (Tom) Murphy; sisters-in-law, Linda and Deb VanDyke; brother-in-law, Ron (Jane) Adema; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Terry and William VanDyke. A MEMORIAL VISITATION for John will be held from 1-3 PM Saturday, September 19, 2020 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. MEMORIALS in memory of John may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association. John’s family would like to thank the staff at Roosevelt Park Nursing Home for the wonderful care they showed to John and the support they offered to his family.
