John C. "Big John" Walter's Obituary
John C. “Big John” Walter, age 95, passed away Monday morning, August 1, 2022. He was born February 25, 1927 to Gilbert E. and Helen M. (Bowser) Walter in Victoria, MN and he never stopped loving that state and considered that his true home. John was a U.S. Army Veteran and served his country during WWII. He worked 33 years for Kaydon Corporation as a machinist prior to his retirement in 1989. On July 6, 1984, he married Elaine Wydra in Las Vegas, NV. She preceded him in death on March 31, 2014. John was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, the American Legion Post 9, the Lovell Moore Masonic Lodge #182 and Masons of Michigan, and the Sparta Moose Lodge #50. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman, loved his dogs, was an avid reader, traveled around the United States, and deeply enjoyed his winter home in Florida. SURVIVORS include two brothers: Richard Walter and Gerald (Marsha) Walter both of Ravenna; sister, Beverly (Calvin) Seelye of Cadillac; sister-in-law, Janet Walter; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, John Walter Jr.; brother, Gilbert L. Walter; and two sisters: Catherine (Lawrence) Weaver and Gertrude (James) Young. A GRAVESIDE SERVICE for John will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Ravenna Cemetery. MEMORIALS to the Muskegon Rescue Mission will be appreciated.
